Eri doesn't really like it, but in the winter months I think she ignores it since the sun rises much later. When I'm tiptoeing to bed after checking in on the boys I like to open the window shade on the window closest to my side of the bed so that the morning light shines in. In the summer the sun rises before five a.m. so I can kinda understand why Eri's averse to it. She's a light sleeper and that July sun shining in super early brings a decisive halt to her slumber.
I like waking to the morning sunlight. The problem for Eri, and really for me as well, is that I am a super sound sleeper and I don't necessarily wake up when the light shines in through the window. I wake up when I wake up, whether it's with my alarm clock or Osamu tackling me or just snoozing until whenever on days when Eri takes pity on me and lets me sleep late.
So the morning light shines in and is there waiting when I deem the day ready for me to be awakened, and Eri is instantly tortured into cognition at first light.
In the summer Eri will usually close the shade on her way back from getting a late night drink of water and checking on the boys. These days I wake to a nice open shade with the winter sun infiltrating the sanctuary.
This morning after hitting snooze a couple of times I looked out and it was snowing pretty nicely. The streets were fairly whitened up and the cars up and down the street were perfectly blanketed.
The boys were so excited to go back to kindergarten today. Eri and I both neglected to pack the boys' snow gear for when they do snow play at school. Luckily the snow didn't last long and there was no snow play. Later Kenzo told me as I was prepping Eri's stew for dinner that all his classmates brought their snow play gear except for him. I got it mixed up with his class field trip to go sledding at Mt, Izumi next Monday and I said don't worry you don't need that stuff until next week.
By dinner time on weekdays Kenzo is super tired and gets grumpy pretty fast. Plus he has a flair for drama. He immediately started crying and said, "Papa, you lie!" I sighed as I put my bowl of stew down and started to explain that I didn't lie, I was just mistaken, but I gave up almost immediately and just ended with, "Kenzo, papa doesn't lie. Eat your dinner. You too Osamu."
