Fake grass is underrated.
Our very modest garden area is carpeted with some fake grass that Eri and I hemmed and hawed over for weeks back in 2018 when we were finally settling into our very own house and getting down to business like the landscaping.
In the end we got some great fake grass that looks real enough to satisfy that part of you that wants real grass but fake-looking enough to satisfy that part of us that wants everything, even nature, to be aesthetically pleasing.
This was four years ago. I watched YouTube videos about how to do lay down fake grass, and I probably coulda done it. In the end we went with the pros, which probably saved us money as well as the sanctity of our marriage and family.
After the guys made our garden green and grassy, there was a roll of leftover fake grass. It got put on the side of the house and it has been snowed on and rained on and baked by the summer sun for four years. This morning I resurrected that fake grass. The time to be of use had come.
Early this morning I dragged that roll out from the side of the house and hung it on the fence out front to air out and rejuvenate. And yup, a bunch of bugs came scurrying out and they were not happy at all. They should count themselves lucky I didn't catch them and put in the mantis box to be eaten.
Eri spent the morning cutting up that last roll of fake grass and fixin' it up so it fits snugly on our second floor veranda, where we hang our laundry. I scrubbed the veranda yesterday, so today was the day to lay some "carpet." (Yay) Now the veranda outside the boys' room is green and when you step out there there's no sound of footsteps clanking on whatever that flooring is. It's the smooth, soft sound of feet on fake grass.
I tried out working from the downstairs dining table this afternoon/evening. As long as no one wants to Zoom and as long as I can keep focus on reports and Excel sheets when the boys are watching Boss Baby we should be okay. It's just a couple hours a day, a few days a week, for a few more months.
