Kenzo had a hard time this morning.
Everyone was still tired from the weekend. Kenzo and Eri especially.
He’s a little boy who loves to play and has minimal understanding of time. Well, he does understand time but he’s not really concerned about it.
I'd like to have that luxury sometimes.
The meet up time for all the neighborhood kids to walk to school is 7:35 in front of our house. Kenzo rarely makes it out in time. So the kids wait for him. It’s not a huge deal. They have plenty of time to get to school. I just don’t like that we’re making them wait. So Eri and I told Kenzo that he needs to be ready by 7:30. It works on some days. He and Eri get his school books ready the night before and that has helped a little bit.
This morning, though, like many mornings, he got distracted playing with Osamu, who doesn’t have to leave with mama until 8 o’clock. The boys got some cool new toys yesterday at Friends Day, one of which is a slinky. They’re kind of obsessed with it. I reminded Kenzo to change clothes so he could brush his teeth and do face washing, but every time I came back around to check on him he was still in his pajamas, and was either messing with the slinky or engaging in some sort of mischief with Osamu, who, by the way, was already dressed and ready to go, even though he has way more time.
Osamu even came in and woke me up at 6:30 and announced he was already going to change his clothes.
Kenzo was unimpressed with Osamu’s’s bravado.
Everyone made it out, though. I did my morning meetings and dove into my managerial tasks. Monday mornings are largely made up of organizing what happened last week and trying to connect that to this week. I am in the process of putting together an OKR (Objectives and Key Results) system for my team. It's a work in progress, but I think we're doing great. I work with some amazing people, and my primary concern as the manager is making sure everyone rises to their potential to carry our mission forward.
It's mentally exhausting, which is why when Eri texted me from downstairs that lunch would be ready whenever I was, I got a boost of energy.
She prepared a Monday feast. Baked chicken legs with a hard boiled egg, kimchi, vegetable salad, and some sort of aloe infused yogurt dessert. Man that hit the spot. The best part was having all the windows open to enjoy this perfect spring day while lunching at the dining table with Eri.
I had a community association meeting at 7 p.m. so Eri and the boys did bath time and were right in the middle of story time when I got home.
