The boys were home today due to a new student orientation event at their kindergarten, so Eri was busy. She took them to the library and to Nanakita Park to play. She made fried rice in the morning so when they got home lunch could be served up quick and the transition to nap time would be smooth. Wishful thinking of course.
In the afternoon I took a walking break and when I came back Eri asked me about going out for dinner. I always love going out. However, Eri gave me a choice - go somewhere or she'll just make udon at home.
For me it's always gonna be stay home to eat, given the choice. Especially when Eri is making something she's particularly amazing at.
I'm not even a fan of udon. I'm more of a soba guy.
But Eri's udon is crazy good. Tonight she loaded on the toppings. Kamaboko of course, but also extra wakame and kakiage. And a side of kimchi, which Osamu loves and kept stealing bites of from me. It's not super spicy authentic Korean kimchi. It's the Japanese version and a bit more mild. I think Osamu would eat the real Korean deal though. He's a four year old foodie. He tries everything. I know many adults who can't stand pickled shallots, but Osamu and I pop those like Pez.
After story time as we were about to head upstairs for bed I managed to negotiate some pictures with Kenzo and Osamu where they're actually smiling and not making goofy faces.
They were asking me if I could carry them upstairs, so used that as leverage. I said I would if you guys will take a nice picture with papa.
There's hope for my parenting skills yet.
