"Hey papa, my tooth came out."
Right in the middle of breakfast, and right after Kenzo had just been lamenting about when that tooth would finally let go after being loosey goosey for a couple of weeks.
Twice in one week.
I congratulated Kenzo and gave him a high five and he put his tooth safely on the kitchen counter. I told him I would text the Tooth Fairy and let her know we have another pickup.
Today was Osamu's last day of spring break, so mama took him shopping with her and they had Baskin Robbins at Tapio. He is so ready to go back to school. Mama is ready for him to go back too. He knows he's growing, and entering the second year of kindergarten is a big leap, from having one foot still in the baby class to being a full-fledged little boy. He's gonna start wearing a uniform and having English class five days a week and more intensive Japanese reading and writing instruction.
It was also Kenzo's first day of after school English class. It's at the kindergarten. They call it Friends Club and the kindergarten buses pick up all the boys and girls from all over Sendai.
Kenzo has been looking forward to Friends Club. He gets to see his kindergarten friends that go to other elementary schools now. Plus the school holds such wonderful events and field trips. There's a trip to the zoo next month and monthly special days where they have parties and games and donuts and whatnot.
It was really cold and windy when Osamu and I drove to the bus stop to pick up Kenzo at 18:20. I completely underdressed and was shivering waiting for that bus to finally roll around the corner.
When Kenzo got back we hopped in the car and drove home and I asked him how it went. He was visibly tired. This new routine is a lot for him. He takes off for elementary school at 7:30, walks home at 13:30, maybe has a nap and maybe not, gets on the Friends Club bus at 16:00, and alights from that bus at 18:20-ish. By the time he and Osamu sit down to start dinner at 18:30 the clock is ticking on which of them will break down from exhausted grumpiness first.
